On midnight of January 20, 2019, an amazing sight will appear in the night sky when Moon will enter the Earth’s darkest shadow and radiate a brilliant red glow of refracted sunlight. The Moon will undergo a full lunar eclipse on Sunday night when the orbit of the Earth passes between the sun and the Moon. This will cause the shadow of Earth to come upon the Moon, giving it a distinctly red colour, which is popularly known as Blood Moon. This exotic colour has also given attention to several prophecies of dooms day.

A super blood moon is a combination of two lunar occurrences, a super moon and a lunar eclipse, whilst the wolf part comes from traditional names for each full moon. However, this Wolf Moon will be special, as it will be occurring at the same time as two other lunar events.

A super moon occurs when the Moon passes at its closest point to Earth while a Blood Moon is when the Moon and the Sun are on the exact opposite sides to the Earth.

This amazing sight occurs just 28 times in a century, which is roughly one time in three years. After the January 20th Blood Moon, the next total lunar eclipse will occur in the year 2021. The full eclipse is expected to start at 11:42 p.m. ET and end at 12:44 a.m. ET.

January’s Full Moon is known as the Wolf Moon and how the phenomenon occurs in the month of January gets it the title of Super Blood Wolf Moon.
