New Delhi:

Is that an Unidentified Flying Object (UFO) or alien craft? No, it’s a SpaceX rocket that was launched last week. It was a ‘WOW’ moment for the viewers when the rocket created a spectacular view over a Southern California freeway, but it apparently also led to a three-car pile-up.

A video has emerged on YouTube, posted by a user named Mark Sales, showing a collision of cars as the rocket passed overhead, creating a stunning streak across the sky.

The video was filmed along Interstate 10 in Banning using a dash cam, according to the Los Angeles Times. The occupants of the car that captured the video can be heard talking about the rocket and then the car crash.

Some media reports suggest that the SpaceX rocket was mistaken for UFO by the drivers. The video shows the white car appears to be badly damaged from behind, however, no injury can be seen in the clip.

The Falcon 9 rocket carrying 10 Iridium communication satellites was launched by SpaceX from the Vandenberg Air Force Base on December 22.

Some Californians apparently thought that it was an alien craft and hence the hashtag #aliens began trending on Twitter. However, The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department clarified in a statement on Twitter that it was not a UFO but the contrail, an artificial cloud formed due to the exhaust of a jet aircraft, of SpaceX rocket. The setting sunlight was hitting it directly because of which it was clearly visible.

The launch created a lot of buzz on social media as its dazzling view during the sunset left the spectators spell-bound. People had different takes on the spectacular launch. Even Elon Musk joked about it saying it was definitely aliens.

SpaceX is scheduled to launch next Falcon 9 rocket on January 4, 2018 from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida.
