Indian Space Research organisation (ISRO) on July 22 successfully launched its un-maned moon mission ‘Chandrayaan 2’. The spacecraft is currently on its way to the Moon’s south polar region to find water based on the finding of its first lunar mission Chandrayaan 1.

It is known to very few that the man behind the successful launch of ‘Chandrayaan 2’ is Chandrakanta Kumar who has his own inspirational story.

He comes from a small village in West Bengal, Hoogly’s Shibpur and was born in Mudhusudhan Kumar’s family. Kumar is a farmer. Chandrakanta was to be named Suryakanta.

He is a senior scientist of ISRO and was also an important name among the people leading the Chandrayaan 2 mission.

Madhursudhan Kumar, father of Chandrakanta in a talk with News18 said, “When the mission was called off on July 15, we were sad. But, our hopes were high and we were ready to witness the most powerful rocket of India lift-up to start a journey on a challenging mission. It is a thing to be proud of, that our son is an essential part of the team of Chandrayaan 2 mission’’.

Apart from this, Chandrakanta has also been part of other space missions of ISRO including Chandrayaan-1, ASTROSAT and GSAT-12.
