The rising of air pollution at an alarming rate has become a serious cause of concern with people discussing ways to tackle with the poor air quality in India. Keeping in mind all these concerns, @TwitterIndia has entered into partnership with @IndiaSpend and has launched a new #Breathe hashtag service on the eve of Earth Day 2016.
The #Breathe service provides Indian users real time information about the levels of air pollution around them using simply a tweet. Major cities like Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai are among the heaviest polluters in the country and hence the service has been launched for these cities as of now. Other cities will also be added soon.
So, here is how the #Breathe service works: If you want to know the air quality around you, just tweet "Breathe" with the name of your area. For example, if you tweet #Breathe Saket, you will get an instant tweet response providing you accurate of the air quality around you. The data you will get comes in the form of particle pollution or PM and AQI (air quality index).
"Pollution levels across India are rising and is a huge health issue affecting millions of people. By leveraging India Spend's air-quality monitoring network, Twitter is democratizing access to live air pollution data to help Indians make healthier living decisions from Earth Day 2016 and beyond," Twitter India mentioned in a detailed blog post.
13 cities in India are among the 20 most polluted cities in the world. In order to tackle the increasing air pollution in the national capital, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has imposed the Odd-Even scheme, which is in its second phase, on the roads.
