Indian women’s table tennis on Sunday created history at the Commonwealth Games following a 3-1 victory against Singapore in the gold medal tie.

This was India’s first ever gold medal in the history of Commonwealth Games in women’s team table tennis category.

Manika Batra played a crucial role by winning two matches against tough opponents, and defeated Tainwei Feng 11-8, 8-11 7-11 11-9 11-7 in the first match.

Madhurika Patkar lost the second game to Mengyu Yu.

Madhurika Patkar, however, lost the second game of the rubber. She proved to be no match for her opponent and lost 11-13 2-11 6-11 to Mengyu Yu. Then she went on to combine with Mouma Das to win the doubles match against Yihan Zhou and Megyu Yu.

After it, Batra demolished Yihan Zhou in three straight games as she looked in superb touch.

This was India’s 12th medal at the Gold Coast with seven gold, two silver and three bronze.

India are fourth on the medal tally behind leaders Australia (84), England (47), Canada (32).
