Virat Kohli's Indian cricket team won the toss and chose to bowl but they were blown away by some aggressive batting from Chris Lynn, Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis. Lynn smashed four sixes in his knock of 37 while Maxwell blasted 46 to help Australia reach 158/4. However, the rain came and reduced the game to 17 overs. In response, India lost Rohit Sharma cheaply but Shikhar Dhawan took the attack to the Australian bowlers, scoring his second consecutive fifty and ninth overall. However, once he and Virat Kohli fell, India struggled but briefly, Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik kept hopes alive but the last over bowled by Marcus Stoinis was too good and Australia won the game by four runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series. (SCORECARD)

  Nov 21, 2018  17:38 (IST)

A brilliant over from Marcus Stoinis as he takes Dinesh Karthik's wicket and Australia seal a nervous four-run win over India to take a 1-0 lead in the series. DK and Pant provided a good fightback but the left-hander's poor shot might raise some questions.

  Nov 21, 2018  17:21 (IST)

Dinesh Karthik's crucial boundary has meant India need 13 off the last over. In the Nidahas Trophy, Idnia needed 12 off the last over and DK hit a last-ball six. Are we onto something similar this time as well? It would be spectacular if this is achieved.

  Nov 21, 2018  17:20 (IST)

WICKET! Oh Rishabh Pant, what have you done? The left-hander attempts a scoop off a full ball but gets the top edge and backward point takes the catch. Tye follows it up with a bouncer and Krunal Pandya gets a single. Dinesh Karthik misses the drive and the pressure is back on India. However, DK finds the boundary and India need 13 off the last over.

  Nov 21, 2018  17:16 (IST)

Australia are taking their time with the field settings. Tye has been woeful and he will need to bowl four good balls to keep the hosts in the contest.

  Nov 21, 2018  17:13 (IST)

Dinesh Karthik finds the boundary again while Rishabh Pant continues to be aggressive. India need 24 off 12 balls. Andrew Tye is under immense pressure.

  Nov 21, 2018  17:04 (IST)

Rishabh Pant blasts a six and a four to keep some hopes alive for India. Andrew Tye has been struggling and India will be aiming to keep the pressure up. Dinesh Karthik finds a boundary to third man and a six to wide long on. India need 35 off 18 balls. 25 runs in Andrew Tye's over and the advantage is with India.

  Nov 21, 2018  16:56 (IST)

Adam Zampa ends a fantastic spell. 4-0-22-2. He has been the difference for Australia in this game. India need 60 off 24 balls. They need something miraculous.

  Nov 21, 2018  16:51 (IST)

That is a massive wicket. Dhawan has survived three dropped chances but this time, he will not be fourth time lucky. Previous ball, he hoicked a ball to fine leg where Nathan Coulter-Nile dropped the catch. Next ball, the upper cut to third man finds Behrendorff who takes it. Ends a great knock but India face an uphill task. Shikhar Dhawan c Behrendorff b Stanlake 76 (42).

  Nov 21, 2018  16:47 (IST)

This is brilliant bowling from Zampa. His spell has been the deciding factor in this game. He has not allowed the Indian batting to maintain momentum. How much can Dhawan carry on? Rishabh Pant's aggression will be the key.

  Nov 21, 2018  16:44 (IST)

WICKET! OMG! This is massive. The pressure has told on Virat Kohli and he falls. Brilliant bowling from Zampa. He gets some extra bounce as Kohli miscues the lofted shot, the top edge flies to backward point who gobbles it with glee. Virat Kohli c Lynn b Zampa 4 (8)

  Nov 21, 2018  16:41 (IST)

Good over from Marcus Stoinis as he concedes just nine runs. India need 81 off 42 balls, with an asking rate of close to 12. Adam Zampa has been outstanding

  Nov 21, 2018  16:34 (IST)

WICKET! Action packed over. Alex Carey breaks the stumps and the umpire signals a no-ball. However, two balls later, Rahul is stumped as he misses a flatter ball. His foot is unfortunately on the line and is given his marching orders. Enter King Kohli. KL Rahul st Carey b Zampa 13 (12).

  Nov 21, 2018  16:28 (IST)

Shikhar Dhawan clobbers a six off his pads and thinks he has gotten a fifty. However, on the next ball, he drills a cover drive to bring up his ninth fifty and second consecutive. The left-hander then creams a full ball to the wide long-off fence and ends the over in style with a blazing straight drive. 17 runs in Jason Behrendorff's over and India are on top.

  Nov 21, 2018  16:24 (IST)

Adam Zampa comes into the attack and he concedes just eight runs, with KL Rahul slicing a flatter delivery in the air but past the gap at backward point. The asking rate is touching 11, but until Virat Kohli is there, India might not worry too much.

  Nov 21, 2018  16:18 (IST)

Dhawan continues to find the boundary with ease as he steers a short ball from Andrew Tye to the third man fence and thumps a full ball to the long off fence. He is nearing a fifty and Australia will not rest until he has been dismissed.

  Nov 21, 2018  16:12 (IST)

KL Rahul is in at No.3 but at the other end, Dhawan carries on in his merry ways as he hoicks a boundary to the fine leg fence. The left-hander is looking ominous. India are 41/1 after five overs and that ends the powerplay.

  Nov 21, 2018  16:09 (IST)

WICKET! Australia get the breakthrough. Short delivery and Rohit shimmies down the track to hoick it to midwicket but does not time it well and Finch takes it.

  Nov 21, 2018  16:07 (IST)

Yet another boundary for Dhawan as he pulls Stanlake to the deep square leg fence. However, Rohit Sharma miscues a pull shot to long leg and the ball, luckily, lands just in front of Ben McDermott who prevents the ball from going further. India are 35/0 after four overs.

  Nov 21, 2018  16:03 (IST)

Dhawan continues to fire as he steers a shortish ball to the third man fence and he survives a chance as he miscues a lofted shot but it lands safely just over long on.

  Nov 21, 2018  15:58 (IST)

Dhawan continues to grow in confidence as he cracks a square cut off Billy Stanlake to the deep backward point fence. India are 18/0 in two overs.

  Nov 21, 2018  15:55 (IST)

Great strat for India in their chase. Rohit gets off the mark with a flick to deep midwicket but Shikhar Dhawan gets going with a couple of boundaries off Jason Behrendorff, one a drive through cover and a streaky inside-edge to the fine leg fence. However, the bowler has the last laugh by beating him twice on the outside edge. After the first over, India are 11/0.

  Nov 21, 2018  15:40 (IST)

Australia have ended on 158/4 in 17 overs. Good last over from Bumrah but the middle over blitz will hurt India. What will the revised target be for India in this reduced game? We have got the target. 174 runs in 17 overs. It is an uphill task but with the Indian batting in top form, it can be achieved.

  Nov 21, 2018  15:36 (IST)

WICKET! The break immediately yields a positive result for India. Bumrah bowls a full, slow ball on off stump, Maxwell goes back in the crease and whips it to square leg but without any timing and Bhuvneshwar takes the catch.

  Nov 21, 2018  15:31 (IST)

Good news! The match will begin in 10 minutes time and the game has been reduced to 17 overs per-side. India will bowl five more balls and the target will be revised when they come to bat

  Nov 21, 2018  15:12 (IST)

More covers are coming on to the pitch now. The rain stopped momentarily but the heavens opened up again and the delay in play continues.

  Nov 21, 2018  15:04 (IST)

The weather graphic for Brisbane does not show a pretty picture. There are some thunderstorms predicted for the next one hour so we might be in for a lengthy delay. It is currently raining heavily at The Gabba.

  Nov 21, 2018  14:58 (IST)

The rain has picked up in intensity and the covers are firmly in place. It looks like Australia might not play their full quota of overs. However, we have not started losing overs yet.

  Nov 21, 2018  14:46 (IST)

Krunal Pandya's 4-0-55-0 is the third-worst figures for an Indian bowler in Twenty20 Internationals. Yuzvendra Chahal conceded 64 runs in four overs against South Africa in 2018 while Joginder Sharma conceded 57 against England in Durban in the 2007 World T20.

  Nov 21, 2018  14:43 (IST)

There is only one major cover protecting the pitch, which indicates that the rain might not be around for too long. Anyway, the Gabba is excellent for drainage and that is why there might not be much of a delay.

  Nov 21, 2018  14:38 (IST)

Another drop! Stoinis upper-cuts Bumrah and Khaleel Ahmed at third man drops it. Uh oh, the covers are on as it has started to rain at the Gabba. Might not be such a long wait but let us see. Much needed relief for India

  Nov 21, 2018  14:35 (IST)

Oh dear, nothing going India's way. Krunal Pandya's figures go past 50 as Maxwell blasts his fourth six. However, a catch is denied India's way as Maxwell misuces a lofted shot but it hits the spider-cam on the way up and it is a dead ball. The 150 is up for Australia and things are not going Virat Kohli's way.

  Nov 21, 2018  14:30 (IST)

Eight runs in Kuldeep Yadav's last over and he finished with figures of 4-0-24-2. The partnership between Maxwell and Stoinis has gone past 50. Dangerous time for India.

  Nov 21, 2018  14:26 (IST)

Hat-trick for Glenn Maxwell. Hat-trick of sixes that is. Krunal Pandya loses his length and he is duly dispatched over the ropes thrice over deep midwicket and long on. 23 runs in the 14th over and the last two overs have been massive for Australia.

  Nov 21, 2018  14:25 (IST)

Khaleel continues to be expensive. After a great start first ball, first Lynn and now Marcus Stoinis hurt the left-armer. Stoinis hits two boundaries, one to deep midwicket and the other to deep square leg as 14 runs come off the 13th over.

  Nov 21, 2018  14:17 (IST)

Krunal gets his second wicket as Marcus Stoinis misses the reverse sweep. Hold on! we have a review after Glenn Maxwell furiously tells the batsman to take the review. It is a sensible move by Maxi as the ball was missing the stumps. Stoinis survives and Australia are 90/3 after 12 overs.

  Nov 21, 2018  14:08 (IST)

Kuldeep Yadav, you beauty. Gets the mighty dangerous Chris Lynn. This is yet another googly and Lynn looks to work it to the leg side, pops a simple catch back to the bowler. This is a serious blow for Australia as they were just building momentum. Chris Lynn c and b Kuldeep Yadav 37 (20).

  Nov 21, 2018  14:06 (IST)

Glenn Maxwell is struggling to get going against Kuldeep and Krunal Pandya, but no such problems for Lynn as he smashes his fourth six by clobbering Pandya to the long on fence. Australia are 75/2 after 10 overs.

  Nov 21, 2018  13:59 (IST)

6,0,2,6,6,1! Time for Lynnsanity at the Gabba. Khaleel pitches it on a full length and the batsman blasts it over long on for the first six of the series. Couple of balls later, he thrashes a length ball into the top-tier of the stands at deep midwicket and he hits his third six with a powerful loft over long on. 21 runs in the eighth over.

  Nov 21, 2018  13:52 (IST)

The powerplay is done and Australia have reached 38/1. Kuldeep Yadav is into the attack now. Australia's travails against spin are well documented and India will be determined to expose this weakness.

  Nov 21, 2018  13:45 (IST)

Chris Lynn gets going with a boundary. He is a mighty dangerous player. He knows the Gabba conditions due to his exploits for the Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash League. Will the Gabba see some Lynnsanity today?

  Nov 21, 2018  13:41 (IST)

WICKET! What a moment for Khaleel Ahmed. Full ball on off stump with a bit off zip, Short miscues the lofted shot and is caught by Kuldeep Yadav running back from mid on. Great start for the youngster Down Under. D'Arcy Short c Kuldeep b Khaleel 7 (12)

  Nov 21, 2018  13:39 (IST)

After dropping Finch, Bumrah suffers. A full ball is blasted to the long on fence by Finch. In the next ball, the batsman gets an inside edge and the ball trickles away to the deep backward square leg fence. 12 runs in the fourth over and Australia are making a move on.

  Nov 21, 2018  13:34 (IST)

FOUR! The first boundary of the series has been hit by D'Arcy Short. Bhuvneshwar bowls it short and the batsman hammers the pull to the long leg fence. A good over is ruined. Next ball, Finch drives at a full ball from Bumrah but Kohli drops it at cover. Things starting to happen in Brisbane.

  Nov 21, 2018  13:29 (IST)

Jasprit Bumrah misses his line and length slightly as both Finch and Short get a couple of runs. Four runs in the second over but there is considerable zip and bounce off this Gabba deck. Australia 5/0 after two overs.

  Nov 21, 2018  13:24 (IST)

Great start for Bhuvneshwar and a good first over for India on the tour. He gets swing away from the left-hander and beats Short twice on the drive. However, his chances of a maiden are ruined as the batsman tucks a short ball to midwicket. After the first over, Australia are 1/0

  Nov 21, 2018  13:21 (IST)

Out come the two Australian openers in Aaron Finch and D'Arcy Short. Bhuvneshwar Kumar will open the bowling with two slips in place. Short to take strike. Here we go Down Under

  Nov 21, 2018  13:15 (IST)

Khaleel Ahmed's left-arm pace will be ideal on this Gabba deck but India have to be careful against Jason Behrendorff. He is the bowler who got Virat Kohli out for 0 for the first time in this format.

  Nov 21, 2018  12:58 (IST)

Here are the playing XIs of both sides. For India, no Yuzvendra Chahal. Kuldeep is the lone spinner for India

Playing XIs

India: Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli(c), Lokesh Rahul, Rishabh Pant(w), Dinesh Karthik, Krunal Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, K Khaleel Ahmed

Australia: D Arcy Short, Aaron Finch(c), Chris Lynn, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Ben McDermott, Alex Carey(w), Andrew Tye, Adam Zampa, Jason Behrendorff, Billy Stanlake

  Nov 21, 2018  12:52 (IST)

India bowl against Australia. Adam Zampa comes in place of Nathan Coulter-Nile in the Australian side. Green deck, sensible decision to bowl.

  Nov 21, 2018  12:47 (IST)

The pitch in Brisbane is vintage Gabba. Grass and a hard wicket. So, there might be swing and bounce on offer. The likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar will relish bowling on this deck. Khaleel Ahmed will also be a good option on this pitch.

  Nov 21, 2018  12:38 (IST)

Virat Kohli has a powerful batting and bowling line-up at his disposal. For Australia, the batting is a major concern with the likes of Aaron Finch, Chris Lynn all misfiring. Without Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood, Australia's bowling is also slightly weak.

  Nov 21, 2018  12:27 (IST)

In the last Twenty20 International series played in 2016, India became the first team to whitewash Australia in a format Down Under. Virat Kohli's three fifties and an average of 199 helped India whitewash Australia 3-0 as they turned their fortunes on the tour in spectacular style after losing the ODIs 1-4.

  Nov 21, 2018  12:16 (IST)

After all the build-up, all the drama and excitement, it is finally here. Virat Kohli's India begin their two-month Odyssey of Australia. The tour kicks off with some slam-bam, thank you ma'am action with the first Twenty20 International in Brisbane. Can India get the tour off to a great start or will Australia spring a surprise?
