New Delhi :

In the wake of Pulwama Terror Attack that claimed the lives of 40 CRPF jawans at Kashmir Valley on 14th February, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) expressed their concern in a letter submitted to the International Cricket Council (ICC) having adequate security in World Cup game against Pakistan on June 16 at Old Trafford, Manchester.

The letter was written by BCCI CEO Rahul Johri to ICC Chairman Shashank Manohar, the council CEO David Richardson and the Chairman of the England and Wales Cricket Board Colin Graves and World Cup tournament director Steve Elworth while keeping CoA members in the loop.

Rahul Johri talked about a lot of important aspects but one concern that took everyone’s eyes was the board’s fear of safety and security of the players and the match officials who would be a part of the World Cup tournament in England and Wales, especially those traveling from India.

He said that BCCI expects the "most robust security is provided to players, match officials and fans of Indian cricket for the upcoming World Cup".

His statement to the ICC has also cleared one thing, India team is almost certain to board a flight to England and play Pakistan. There have been a lot of talks whether India will play against the men-in-green at the World Cup, and almost every current Indian cricketer said they would do as per what BCCI asks them to do.

With Johri indirectly hinting it through a letter, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that the focus will now shift to the on-field action. The all-important World Cup is set to begin on 30th May and the Men in Blue will play their first game against South Africa on June 5 at Rose Bowl, Southampton.
