BCCI to nominate Indian skipper Virat Kohli for Khel Ratna Award?

If sources are to be believed, BCCI has recommended Indian skipper Virat Kohli name for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award this year and Sunil Gavaskar’s for Dhyan Chand Award for Lifetime Achievement in sports.

Every year on August 29, birthday of famous hockey player Major Dhyanchand, is celebrated as National Sports Day and Khel Ratna Awards are presented to the player with outstanding contribution towards sports.

It is also the highest Award for Sports in India.

Khel Ratna Award was started in the year 1991 and only 34 athletes have been presented with the award till now including just cricketers.

Earlier Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni were awarded with the award in the year 1997 and 2007 respectively.
