New Delhi:

Dinesh Karthik’s last ball six helped India clinch the Nidahas Trophy 2018 against Bangladesh at R.Premadasa Stadium, Colombo on Sunday.

After winning the toss, skipper Rohit Sharma elected to bowl first. Bangladesh was shaky at the start as they lost 3 early wickets in the form of Tamim Iqbal, Liton Das, and Soumya Sarkar.

Spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar troubled the Tigers with their variations and picked up regular wickets. Bangladeshi batsman Sabbir Rehman came into the flow when he anchored their ship with some beautiful shots.

Mahmuddulah and Mehidy Hasan helped Bangladesh finish with a good total of 166 for 8. Chasing a target of 167, India lost Dhawan and Suresh Raina early, but captain Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul handled the pressure well.

After the dismissal of KL Rahul, Manish Pandey joined the party and continued to tick the scoreboard. Vijay Sankar gave India some heavy scares at the end when after he struggled to connect any ball with the bat.

But after the departure of Manish Pandey, Dinesh Karthik came in and powered India to the victory. India needed 5 off the last ball and it was DK who cleared the ropes to help India lift the Nidahas Trophy.

"Really happy to come out of this tournament. Wouldn't have done justice to this tournament had we not won with the bunch of young guys in the team. I have been practicing these shots - having a strong base and then hitting from there." said Man of the Match Dinesh Karthik after his heroics.

"Lots of strategizing and it was about executing them. Very happy for DK. I want one of the experienced campaigners to stay at the end - that's why I held DK back. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't." said the jubilant Indian skipper Rohit Sharma.

Washington Sundar was named the Man of the Series for his magnificent performances throughout the series.
