New Delhi:

England’s all-time leading wicket-taker James Anderson was spotted having a heated face-off with Indian captain Virat Kohli on the Day 2 of the ongoing fifth Test match at the Oval in London. Umpire Kumar Dharmasena intervened to cool down the situation and stop the heated altercation. The face-off took place just after Virat Kohli survived a review against an LBW appeal off a delivery by Jimmy Anderson in the 29th over.

Anderson produced a peach of a delivery which nipped back in and struck the Kohli on his pads. The Indian skipper was late in reacting as Anderson was consistently bowling out-swingers and Kohli didn’t expect an in-swinger suddenly.

However, umpire Kumar Dharmasena opted to give Kohli not out and the convinced English side took a review. The replays showed that the ball was going on to hit the stumps but the impact was with umpire’s decision and the Kohli was given not out.

The outcome left Anderson disappointed and resulted in the heated altercation before skipper Root was asked to intervene.

Anderson has been brilliant in this five-match Test series but failed to pick up the coveted wicket of Virat Kohli.

Here is the video of the heated exchange:

When asked about the rivalry England’s Jos Buttler said, "Virat Kohli is one of the best player in the world if not the best at the minute and Jimmy Anderson is England's greatest ever bowler. So as a matchup for fans and for players like us, it is awesome to watch. I think the two of them are immensely competitive. Jimmy has been particularly unlucky, he has created a lot of chances and did get really close and it has been great to watch.”

Earlier, when asked about his rivalry with Virat Kohli, Anderson said, “Well, not great for me – I haven’t got him out! He’s obviously their best player, he’s one of, if not the best player in the world right now. It’s a really exciting challenge for us seam bowlers, we’re in our home conditions and we’re trying to use them as best we can."
