April 24 is a red-letter day for a billion Indian and world cricket fans. It is the day when God had a date. It is the day when Sachin Tendulkar was born. The Master Blaster, who has amassed records which might never be broken, is considered one of the greatest players to have ever set foot on a cricket field. Tendulkar’s exploits and his persona transcended age groups, cultures, languages and made a diverse country united as one. Today, as Tendulkar turned 46, fans took to social media to celebrate the genius of Tendulkar. #GodofCricket, #HappyBirthdaySachin and #SachinTendulkar became the top trends on Twitter.

Fans highlighted his persona and wished him a Happy Birthday. Other fans put out a video of his Desert Storm knocks on Twitter. In 1998, two days before his birthday, Tendulkar had put Australia to the sword in Sharjah during the Coca Cola Cup tri-series which also involved New Zealand. In the final league game, Tendulkar blasted 143 and ensured India reached the final against Australia. In the final, Tendulkar once again hammered 134 as India won the title. Those two knocks cemented Tendulkar’s brilliance and established him as a once-in-a-lifetime cricketer.

Many fans took to Twitter to upload the moment when Tendulkar became the first cricketer on the planet to score an international double century in ODIs. During the 2010 ODI against South Africa in Gwalior, Tendulkar hit 200 and established his legendary status. During the 2011 World Cup, Tendulkar ticked off the one thing which was absent from his list of achievements when India won the title for the first time in 28 years.

When Tendulkar announced his retirement, it was an emotional moment for all fans. During the Wankhede Test of 2013 against West Indies, Tendulkar was dismissed for 74 and after India won the Test, the tributes that poured in for Tendulkar was a sight.

Tendulkar retired six years ago and his list of records are simply beyond comparison. The first player to score 100 international centuries, the highest run-getter in Tests and ODIs with 15921 runs and 18426 runs respectively. 51 Test tons and 49 ODI centuries. The list keeps getting longer. Until the game of cricket is played, Tendulkar’s records and feats shall be etched forever in the sands of time.
