New Delhi:

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced the 15-man squad for the home Test series against West Indies that is set to start from October 4 with Virat Kohli returning as the captain for Team India, whereas, Cricket West Indies had already announced their 15-man squad for the tour of India a month ago.

"The panel congratulates Jason Holder and his team on the excellent performance against Bangladesh. As the team embarks on a tough tour of India the successes against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh should hold them in good stead during the India series," said the Chairman of Selectors, Courtney Browne.

The young West Indies side will be under the leadership of Jason Holder and have the likes of Roston Chase, Kemar Roach, Kraigg Brathwaite in their cavalry.

Notable absentees from the West Indies’ squad are Devon Smith and Miguel Cummins following their poor run of form.

Kraigg Brathwaite and Keiran Powell join the team as the specialist openers while Jome Warrican and Devendra Bishop will have the responsibility of the spin department against the Indian team.

The Windies team have done reasonably well, especially in the Test series against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in similar conditions. However, the Jason Holder-led side are still looking for improvement in every department as the squad is fairly inexperienced in the red ball cricket.

“Currently we are getting used to the conditions as the boys have arrived just a couple of days back. Some of the guys from the team were heavily involved with the T20 competitions, like the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), so we need to settle down quickly and work hard for the tour,” Windies skipper Jason Holder told News Nation in an exclusive interview ahead of the month-long tour.

Holder as a captain has led the side with confidence and pride and West Indies had won their first ever Test match in England since 2000 under his leadership in 2017.

The 15-man Windies squad is fresh and full of talent and hunger. But, India start the series as clear favourites but any lack of concentration could lead to mighty upset and Virat Kohli-led Team India would never want that to happen.
