HS Prannoy continued his good run at the Japan Open Super Series by defeating Chinese Hsu Jen Hao in two closely contested games 21-16 23-21 to enter the quarter-finals of the premier event.  

Meanwhile it was curtains for Sameer Verma who crashed out of the tournament losing to Shi Yuqi in the pre quarterfinals. The Chinese shuttler seals his spot in the quarters of men's singles with a 10-21, 21-17, 15-21 win over India's Sameer Verma. The Indian started brilliantly but was taken by surprise in the second and third games. 

Meanwhile, later on Thursday PV Sindhu shall again lock horns against her arch rival Nozomi Okuhara. The Sindhu- Okuhara has become one of the high profile rivalries in world badminton with the ace shuttlers clashing in the finals of the World Championships and Korea Open.
