Former Indian cricketer Jacob Martin is currently in a critical condition post an accident which occurred on December 28 and is currently on ventilator as he suffering several serious injuries to his lungs and liver. As per some reports, the former cricketer’s wife had also written to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for financial aid. The board instantly sanctioned Rs 5 lakh. Even the Baroda Cricket Association also came forward and provided an amount of Rs 3 lakh.
Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly also came forward and helped Martin’s family with a bank transfer. He spoke to The Telegraph and said, “Martin and I have been teammates and I remember him as a quiet, introvert-type of person. While praying for Martin’s speedy recovery, I’d like his family to know that they don’t stand alone’’.
Now, Hardik Pandya’s brother Krunal Pandya has extended his hand to help Martin’s family and gave a blank cheque and said "Sir, please fill up whatever is needed, but nothing less than Rs 1 lakh," Krunal told Patel, as quoted by The Telegraph.
Sanjay Patel, Former Baroda Cricket Association secretary also extended his hand for help and said, “Once I came to know about the accident I tried to help Jacob’s family in every possible way. I have spoken to few well-wishers — including the Maharaja of Baroda Samarjitsinh Gaekwad who donated Rs 1 lakh — and accumulated around Rs 5 lakh for his treatment’’.
Patel said, "Martin's family was in a dilemma, whether to appeal for help or not. Today, the situation is such that they don't have to ask, members from the fraternity are asking about the amount to transfer’’.
‘’It's overwhelming that Zaheer Khan, Yusuf and Irfan Pathan, Munaf Patel, Sourav and Ravi, among others, have come forward to extend a helping hand in this time of distress for Martin's family’’, he added.
Jacob Martin has played ten One Day International for India under the captainship of Ganguly and Tendulkar in the year 1999.
