Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Thursday touched yet another milestone in his glittering cricketing career in the ongoing fifth ODI match against West Indies at the Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram. MS Dhoni, who was sharing the No.3 spot with South African icon Mark Boucher for the most number of dismissals behind the wickets in ODIs ahead of the match, went past his tally after taking the catch of Keiron Powell in the fourth delivery of the opening over of the match.
Ahead of the match, both MS Dhoni and Mark Boucher were locked on at the No.3 spot with 424 dismissals each.
In the fourth ball of the opening over, Bhuvneshwar Kumar swung the ball away from Powell, only for him to knick a thick chunk of the bat. Dhoni, diving low to left took a good catch and surpassed Boucher’s tally, and now sits comfortably at the third spot for the most dismissals behind the stumps. Only Adam Gilchrist (472) and Sangakkara(482) are above him.
The former World Cup winning Indian skipper already has the world record for the most number of stumpings at 115.
In the fifth ODI, West Indies skipper Jason Holder won the toss and elected to bat first. However, the Windies lost two quick wickets in opener Keiran Powell and their talismanic batsman Shai Hope, who was sent back by Jasprit Bumrah for a five ball duck.
India lead the series 2-1 and the Virat Kohli-led Men in Blue will look forward to banking on their good start to the match.
