New Delhi:

Indian skipper Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni’s stellar knock helped Team India to clinch the Adelaide ODI on Tuesday against Australia. It was Virat Kohli’s 39th ton and MS Dhoni’s return as a match finisher performance which led to the historic win by six wickets. But, one thing which went unnoticed during the match was a single by Mahendra Singh Dhoni where the wicket-keeper batsman forgot to touch the crease which is known as a short run. The incident also went unnoticed by the on-field umpires as well as by the third umpires.

Now, a video has surfaced over the internet where MS Dhoni can be seen taking a run after hitting the ball but unintentionally forgets to touch the crease on the non-strikers’ end. The whole incident went unnoticed by the umpires.

It happened during the 45th over of the Indian innings after the spinner Nathan Lyon bowled the last ball of his over.

During the match, Virat Kohli also went past 6,000 ODI runs overseas. When Kohli fell for 104, it seemed that the chase would fizzle out but Dhoni showcased his calmness and guided India home. The fact that India did not have to chase over 300 owed much to Bhuvneshwar’s exploits earlier in the day. Kohli is the 19th player to achieve this milestone and the fifth Indian to go past 6,000 runs in ODIs.

Kohli’s century was his 39th in ODIs and it puts him just 10 away from reaching Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 49 centuries. The fact that he still has a massive gap with Tendulkar with so few gaps in number of tons underlines his class. This was his 64th international century, helping him go past Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara’s tally of 63 runs. Kohli also slammed his fifth century in Australia, putting him level with Rohit Sharma and Sangakkara for most centuries by an overseas batsmen Down Under.

Recently, former skipper Sunil Gavaskar also applauded MS Dhoni for his recent performance and said that the veteran’s value to the team cannot be calculated despite the lack of consistency.
