Ravichandran Ashwin says haven't done much wrong, not desperate for came back

New Delhi:

Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin who is out of the team for last two series said that he is "not desperate" to make a comeback in the national team and wait for the right opportunity as he has not done "much wrong".

"I am not desperate at all. One day, the opportunity will come knocking on my door because I haven’t done too much wrong. So when I get the opportunity and when I am put in an occasion, I will probably try and raise my game to the best of my ability,” Ashwin said.

The duo of finger spinners, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja were "rested" for Sri Lanka series and the BCCI didn't miss them for home series against Australia too.

The reason behind their exclusion from Indian team wasn't their poor form, in fact, their performance, when they were left out, was satisfactory.

Talking about possible reason of his exclusion from the team -- Virat Kohli's preference to wrist spinners over finger-- Ashwin said every leader has his own vision and should be respected for that.

"Every leader has his own vision of how to bring the team about, and this is the vision of the current leadership group. It's very important to respect it. If I was a leader, I would expect everyone else to respect it, the 31-year-old cricketer said.

The instant success of current wrist spinners duo, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Kuldeep Yadav has made their case stronger and raised doubts over Ashwin and Jadeja's chances in limited-overs.

However, Ashwin, who has 4 Test hundreds to his name, wants to play the role of not just a bowler but also of a top order batsman "to do justice" to his "potential".

"I would have loved to bat higher in a one-day game and try to do justice to my potential... but you never know. I have a fair number of years left in me as a cricketer. I never rule anything out and I never take anything for granted," Ashwin added.
