Farhart, whose tenure began in 2015 ended after the 2019 World Cup following India's exit in the semi-final. In the last four clash against New Zealand, Virat Kohli's side lost by 18 runs and it continued their poor run in major ICC events since 2013, having lost in the final and semi-final in the 2014 World T20, 2015 World Cup, 2016 World T20 and the 2017 Champions Trophy final. Speaking about the development, Farhart said it was a wonderful chance for him to once again work in the IPL.

"I am delighted to be working in the Indian Premier League again. Delhi Capitals is a team that has made some very positive changes in its setup over the last couple of years, and the result is there to see in the side's third-place finish in the 2019 season," Farhart, who has earlier worked with the Kings XI Punjab in the IPL.

Speaking about the appointment, Delhi Capitals CEO Dhiraj Malhotra said, "There is no doubt that he is among the best in the business. Patrick not only has an enviable body of work, but he also commands a tremendous amount of respect among cricketers. I am absolutely confident that our players will benefit hugely from Patrick's presence."

In earlier transfer news, Mayank Markande, who has been part of the Mumbai Indians franchise for the last couple of seasons has been traded to the Delhi Capitals for the next edition of the Indian Premier League. Markande, the Punjab legspinner, has enjoyed success with the four-time IPL champions and he will now be wanting to create the same impact with the Delhi Capitals, who reached the playoff stage last year. In return, Mumbai Indians have roped in Guyana and West Indies all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford.

"We wish Mayank the very best for his future. Mayank is a brilliant talent and we were fortunate to have spotted and nurtured him early. It is a difficult decision for us, but we are releasing Mayank for better cricketing prospects and know that Mayank is on the cusp of emerging as yet another shining star of Indian cricket. He will always be a part of the Mumbai Indians family. I am excited to welcome the talented Sherfane into our family. Sherfane has impressed us with his all-round skills and match-winning attitude. His exploits across the world at such an early stage of his career has been impressive and we believe he will find his home at Mumbai Indians," MI owner Akash Ambani said in a statement.
