New Delhi:

Former legendry Indian player and the Head Coach of India’s junior cricket team Rahul Dravid on Saturday said he was proud of the effort the ‘boys in blue’ have put in to win the Under-19 World Cup in Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui.

“I am really proud of the boys, proud of the effort that they have put in and proud of the support staff as well,” Dravid said after India’s record 4th U-19 World Cup victory.

With the help of opener Manjot Kalra’s spectacular ton, India defeated Australia in the grand finale of the ICC Under 19 World Cup to win the showpiece event for a record fourth time.

Reacting to the boys in blue’s brilliant performance, Dravid said, “I think the effort we have put in over the last 14 months have been sensational. They really deserved this.”

On coaching India’s next generation in Cricket, the former Indian captain said, “Coaching this team I tend to get a lot of attention, but it is really about the quality of support staff that we have had and the effort they have put in has been amazing.”

Indian team dominated the tournament by winning all of their matches and the team's performance was also a fitting tribute to coach Dravid, who finally got his hands on a World Cup trophy.

Under Dravid, the side had also finished runner-up in the 2016 edition in Bangladesh.

With the fourth crown, India became the first team to win the coveted title four times. Earlier, India has won the Under 19 World Cup thrice, in 2000, 2008, and 2012.
