With 2019 Cricket World Cup approaching, India opener Rohit Sharma has revealed the team’s plan for the selection of players for the playing XI. Addressing a press conference in Sydney ahead of ODI series opener, Rohit Sharma also cleared the air on the selection of out of form MS Dhoni in the playing squad for the World Cup 2019, scheduled to be held in England in May this year. Rohit Sharma said that there would not be any drastic change in the squad but the final decision of any player will depend on their form.
"Nobody is guaranteed to that flight to England as yet. We've to be in prime form. Each & every player that will be taking part in the World Cup, all of us are aware of that, we need to keep performing&make sure that come to the World cup, we're ready for it," Rohit told reporters.
He, however, added that there would not be any major changes in the team and only one of two players from the current squad could be left out of the team due to form or injury. "More or less you'll see the same squad playing the World Cup, there will be one or two changes keeping in mind form&injury concerns over the next few months. But I don't see any drastic change in the squad. However, I still feel everything will depend on the form of each player,"
Speaking about chances of MS Dhoni in the World Cup playing squad, Sharma said, "Over the years we've seen the kind of presence he has in the dressing room and on the field. With him being around, there's calmness around the group, it's also a bit of a help to the captain, also going down the batting order & that finishing touch is very important."
