Jose Mourinho hopes he has not had his final match against his long-term rival Arsene Wenger after Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Arsenal on Sunday.

Wenger’s last trip to Old Trafford as the Arsenal manager begun with a classy welcome from former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who gifted his old rival with a silver vase before the kick-off. Sir Alex and Arsene Wenger was also joined by Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho claimed that he had asked Ferguson to get involved in Wenger’s pre-match tribute as he was his ‘real rival, especially at Manchester United.’

Mourinho won the last Premier League battle against the French after Marouane Fellani’s injury time winner, but the Portuguese said that he hopes that the pair would meet once again down the road.

"I hope that I play against him again, I hope that can happen," said Mourinho.

"If not in the Premier League, who knows, we still have a big match waiting for us."

Arsene Wenger was left surprised by the warm reception from the crowd at Old Trafford and he was later left posing for photographs with the gift alongside Ferguson and Mourinho before the game.

"They're not always as you'd imagine, but it shows as well that life goes always on," Wenger said.

"Sometimes it gets better, it was just another game for me but I'm very grateful for the gesture from Manchester United," added the Arsenal manager.
