Jason Roy's 85 off 65 balls along with the brilliance of Chris Woakes with the ball helped the host-England to thrash Australia at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The 8 wicket win over five-time champions Australia helped England to make it to the World Cup final after 27 years and will play New Zealand at Lord's in London on Sunday.

21:42 hrs IST: This has been brutal from England. They have been able to dominate the game right from ball one and showed why every fan and cricket-pundit termed them as title contendors. A magnificent start from Jonny Bairstow and Jason Roy helped England to finish semi-final with ease. RESULT: England beat Australia by 8 wickets and they're through to FINAL! 

21:32 hrs IST: Couple of boundaries from the over. 13 runs from the over. After 30 overs, it's 210/2. 

21:29 hrs IST: MAIDEN OVER! Rare respite for Australia but it is only delaying the inevitable. After 29 overs, England are 197/2.

21:25 hrs IST: Morgan blasts two fours off Nathan Lyon and England near a win. After 28 overs, England are 197/2.

21:21 hrs IST: FOUR! Morgan crunches a pull shot from Behrendorff and after 27 overs, England are 186/2.

21:13 hrs IST: Root finds yet another boundary off Starc and England are making good progress. After 25 overs, England are 171/2.

21:03 hrs IST: Morgan pounces on the width provided by Starc to the short ball and England are 158/2 after 23 overs.

20:57 hrs IST: Morgan continues to be peppered by the short ball and there is some rain lurking. The ground staff are near the boundary ropes. England are 153/2 after 22 overs.

20:47 hrs IST: WICKET! Oh dear! What exactly happened at Edgbaston? Pat Cummins bowled a short of a length delivery and Roy tried to pull it, however, he missed it completely. Cummins appealed and Kumar Dharmasena had bit of hesitation in raising his finger but eventually did. The replay showed that Roy was not out but was asked to leave the field. Massive moment in the game. Departs for 85. After 20 overs, it's 147/2.

20:42 hrs IST: Jason Roy slaps a boundary through mid-wicket region. Five came off the over and England are inching close to victory. After 19 overs, it's 141/1. 

20:38 hrs IST: Joe Root replaced Jonny Bairstow in the middle and starts his innings with boundary. Three boundaries and a wicket from 18th over. It's 136/1. 

20:35 hrs IST: WICKET! Finally some respite in Australian camp. They have been able to break the all-important partnership with Bairstow getting dismissed for 34. Mitchell Starc bowled a good length delivery and he missed it completely - ball went onto hit the stumps. Bairstow reviewed the on-field decision, but DRS showed that it was hitting the middle stump. First wicket DOWN!

20:33 hrs IST: This is colossal hitting from English openers. A boundary or two is coming in almost every over. They are just 100 runs away now. After 17 overs, it's 124/0. 

20:28 hrs IST: BIG OVER! Steve Smith came to bowl in the 16th over and has been welcomed with hat-trick of sixes by Jason Roy. 21 came off the over. It's 116/0 after 16 overs.

20:19 hrs IST: FIFTY! What an exceptional innings this has been from South Africa-born Jason Roy. He has showed class and temperament against five-time champions Australia. With a delightful boundary through the cover region, the 28-year-old lad gets to his 18th ODI fifty. After 15 overs, it's 95/0.

20:15 hrs IST: As Jason Roy nears his 18th ODI fifty, England find themselves ahead in game. A boundary came off the over. After 14 overs, it's 80/0. 

20:13 hrs IST: A boundary and single off Lyon's second over. After 13 overs, it's 76/0. 

20:09 hrs IST: There was a slight hault in the game after Jonny Bairstow had trouble with ankle. However, he hasn't left the field and looking good for more. After 12 overs, it's 71/0. 

19:57 hrs IST: Spinner introduced into the attack for the first time in second innings and Roy smashed him for a six over long off. 13 runs from the over. After 11 overs, it's 63/0. 

19:54 hrs IST: The first 10 overs belong to England. The duo came out with a set plan and have been able to execute it perfectly. 50-run partnership. After 10 overs, it's 50/0. 

19:50 hrs IST: Five good balls from Cummins but boundary on the last ball off the over. Cummins bowled a short of a length delivery and Roy flicks it with ease. After 9 overs, it's 44/0. 

19:46 hrs IST: The duo is showing its class in Birmingham. Australian team is certainly looking under pressure as Bairstow and Roy put England on driver's seat. Seven came off the over. After 8 overs, it's 40/0. 

19:40 hrs IST: After Jason Behrendorff not being able to break the partnership, Aaron Finch introduced Pat Cummins into the attack. He gave two runs in the over and Australia see themselves at 33/0 after 7 overs. 

19:36 hrs IST: Mitchell Starc is looking a little out of place at Edgbaston. Jason Roy is taking toll and hammering the bowler all-around the ground. After 6 overs, it's 31/0. 

19:30 hrs IST: Three runs from the over and one has to say, Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow are looking good. After 5 overs, it's 19/0. 

19:26 hrs IST: A delightful boundary off the first and the last ball makes the score look 16 after 4 overs. 

19:21 hrs IST: MAIDEN OVER! Good comeback from Jason Behrendorff. He has bowled in the right areas and has been able to keep England's in-form Jonny Bairstow quiet. Six dot ball means - it's first maiden over of second innings. After 3 overs, it's 6/0.

18:42 hrs IST: WICKET! Perfect yorker from Mark Wood and Behrendorff is out. Australia have been bowled out for 223 in 49 overs. England need 224 to seal their place in history. 18:30 hrs IST: WICKETS! Brilliant stuff from Jos Buttler. Smith tries to dig out a yorker and scampers through for a quick single, Buttler steadies himself and fires a throw at the bowler's end, it is a direct hit and Smith is out for a brilliant 85. Next ball, Mitchell Starc is out for 29. Australia are 217/9 after 47.2 overs.

18:28 hrs IST: Australia are not finding the boundary that regularly but they are still scoring runs. After 47 overs, Australia are 217/7.

18:24 hrs IST: Steve Smith is trapped on the pads and England opt for the review. However, it is umpire's call and Smith survives. After 46 overs, Australia are 210/7.

18:16 hrs IST: Mitchell Starc thumps a big six off Liam Plunkett and Smith continues to make good progress. Australia have crossed 200 and they need to bat out the remaining overs. Smith thumps a four and after 45 overs, Australia are 206/7.

18:13 hrs IST: Mitchell Starc thumps Mark Wood to the long off fence for a much-needed boundary. Australia are 192/7 after 44 overs.

18:09 hrs IST: Steve Smith nearly survives a run-out and Australia are 186/7 after 43 overs.

18:05 hrs IST: England are bowling the right lengths and Australia are 181/7 after 42 overs. Australia are making good progress.

17:57 hrs IST: Steve Smith is still hanging in there. Australia are 175/7 after 40 overs. Can England take the remaining wickets quickly or will Australia reach 200?

17:36 hrs IST: WICKET! Superb stuff from Archer. He bowls a shortish leg-cutter that kicks up from the deck and stops on Maxwell, he stabs it to shortish cover and falls for an attacking 22. After 34.5 overs, Australia are 157/6.

17:22 hrs IST: KABOOM! Maxwell blasts a big six off Adil Rashid. If he maintains the tempo, England will struggle but if he fails, it is massive advantage for England. Australia are 142/5 after 31 overs.

17:04 hrs IST: WICKETS! England get the breakthrough and Alex Carey falls after a brave knock. Flighted ball from Rashid and Carey jumps down the track to whack it to deep midwicket but the catch is taken. Smith notches up his 23rd fifty but Marcus Stoinis is trapped LBW.

16:03 hrs IST: Brilliant fielding from Ben Stokes but Mark Wood struggles for direction. Australia are 36/3 after 13 overs.

15:58 hrs IST: Ben Stokes is into the attack and he concedes just one run. We might be in for a low-scoring game again. Australia are 29/3 after 12 overs.

15:41 hrs IST: Carey has got a bandage on his chin and he is resuming the innings. England are on fire and they will be hoping that they do not take their foot off the throat.

15:37 hrs IST: Ouch! That will hurt. Carey nicely drives Archer down the ground for three runs but on the last ball, he gets hit on the helmet and it comes off. Carey is getting some treatment and one hopes he is fine. After eight overs, Australia are 19/3.
