New Delhi:

New Zealand have chosen to bowl against Sri Lanka in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 encounter. Kane Williamson's side are missing the services of Tim Southee and Tom Blundell. Matt Henry was the star with three wickets and he was given good support by all the other New Zealand bowlers. Lockie Ferguson also bowled with pace and venom and accounted for three wickets. Dimuth Karunaratne smashed his third fifty and it was a good effort from a player who had not played ODIs for four years. Thisara Perera was the only other batsman to contribute but the rest of the batsmen fell short as Sri Lanka were bundled out for 136. In response, Martin Guptill and Colin Munro blasted fifties as New Zealand secured a 10-wicket win against Sri Lanka for the first time to get their tournament off to a flier. Get highlights here. Dhananjaya de Silva avoids the hat-trick by driving Henry straight down the ground. Sri Lanka are 50/3 after 8.3 overs.

15:33 hrs IST: Kusal Perera creams two boundaries off Trent Boult, one over deep extra cover. This is superb batting from Kusal Perera. However, Dimuth Karunaratne almost chops the ball back onto the stumps. The ball hit the stumps but the bail is not removed. After six overs, Sri Lanka are 35/1.

15:29 hrs IST: Kusal Perera leans onto a full ball from Henry and then drills it down the ground for a wonderful boundary. The pitch is easing out and Sri Lanka are making good progress. After five overs, Sri Lanka are 25/1.

15:18 hrs IST: Trent Boult is getting some swing as well and Dimuth Karunaratne manages to negotiate it well. Sri Lanka need some gritty batting if they have to reach a good total. After two overs, Sri Lanka are 7/1.

15:12 hrs IST: Henry is getting some good inward movement and Kusal Perera is struggling to cope with it. After the first over, Sri Lanka are 4/1.

After getting hit for a boundary first ball, Henry gets this good length delivery to straighten on leg stump and Lahiru Thirimanne gets hit on the pad, New Zealand appeal but the umpire says not out. Williamson opts for the review and replays show that the ball pitched in line and was hitting leg stump. New Zealand strike. After 0.2 overs, Sri Lanka are 4/1.

14:53 hrs IST: Tim Southee's absence is a big blow for New Zealand but they have good backup in Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson. FYI, Matt Henry went for 107 runs in nine overs against West Indies in Bristol.

14:48 hrs IST: Here are the playing XIs of both the sides

Sri Lanka (Playing XI): Dimuth Karunaratne(c), Lahiru Thirimanne, Kusal Perera(w), Kusal Mendis, Angelo Mathews, Dhananjaya de Silva, Thisara Perera, Jeevan Mendis, Suranga Lakmal, Isuru Udana, Lasith Malinga

New Zealand (Playing XI): Martin Guptill, Colin Munro, Kane Williamson(c), Tom Latham(w), Ross Taylor, James Neesham, Colin de Grandhomme, Mitchell Santner, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Trent Boult

14:41 hrs IST: New Zealand have chosen to bowl. Sri Lanka have said they would have bowled as well. No Tim Southee for New Zealand as he suffered a calf strain. The pitch is on the greener side and Trent Boult will be hoping to get some fair purchase off this deck.

14:37 hrs IST: The pitch has a fair covering of grass and it will all be about skills. The team that wins the toss will bat.

14:32 hrs IST: Lasith Malinga is seen warming up. By all the indications, the pitch in Cardiff will aid the batsmen immensely but the spinners could get some assistance.

14:25 hrs IST: Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor, along with Martin Guptill have been the key for New Zealand in the past couple of seasons. Along with Henry Nicholls, the batting is in good shape. For Sri Lanka, all hopes are pinned on Angelo Mathews, Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis.

14:16 hrs IST: So far, in the first two games of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, the results have been lopsided. West Indies thrashed Pakistan with 27 overs to go while England hammered South Africa by 104 runs. Will this be a close game?

14:08 hrs IST: In the warm-up games, New Zealand started brilliantly by beating India while against West Indies, they were blown away in Bristol. For Sri Lanka, their warm-up games did not go too well, losing to South Africa and Australia convincingly. Their one win so far in the last five games has come against Scotland. Will they manage to get over the line against a disciplined New Zealand side?

13:59 hrs IST: Can Sri Lanka start their journey on a winning note? In past World Cups, excluding 2015, they started off on the right note but faded away as the tournament continued.

13:48 hrs IST: Sri Lanka have endured a torrid time in ODIs for the last couple of seasons. They are led by Dimuth Karunaratne, a player who has not played ODIs for four years. Sri Lanka cricket has been in the throes of chaos and preparations have been chaotic to say the least.

13:44 hrs IST: New Zealand have played four ODIs against Sri Lanka in England winning three and losing one. In the last encounter in England which was in the ICC Champions Trophy 2013, New Zealand defeated Sri Lanka by one wicket in what was a low-scoring thriller.

13:36 hrs IST: A warm welcome to the third match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. This is the first double-header of the tournament, with Afghanistan and Australia clashing at 6:00 PM at Bristol. First, it is New Zealand and Sri Lanka at the picturesque Swalec cricket stadium in Sophia Gardens, Cardiff.
