England chose to bowl against Pakistan in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 encounter in Trent Bridge. Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq gave Pakistan a rousing start with an aggressive opening partnership. However, Fakhar Zaman was stumped by Moeen Ali while Imam-ul-Haq fell to a brilliant catch from Chris Woakes. Babar Azam slammed his 13th fifty and Mohammad Hafeez gave him good support. Pakistan lost their opening game against the West Indies but they put up a better show. Mohammad Hafeez and Sarfaraz Ahmed blasted fifties as Pakistan notched up 348/8, their second-highest total in the World Cup. In response,Pakistan's spinners restricted the England top order but it took centuries from Joe Root and Jos Buttler to steady the England innings. Root smashed his 15th ton and Buttler his ninth but Pakistan held their nerve to snap their losing streak and win by 14 runs. (SCORECARD)

22:13 hrs IST: Joe Root blasts a boundary to the long leg fence as he latches onto the pull shot. He is nearing his century and England are 231/4 after 36 overs.

22:09 hrs IST: Jos Buttler blasts two boundaries off Mohammad Amir and England continue to be in the hunt. After 35 overs, England are 221/4.

21:58 hrs IST: Riaz and Shadab have bowled a couple of tight overs asthe asking rate crosses eight. England are 205/4 after 33 overs.

21:50 hrs IST: Buttler blasts yet another six and Asif Ali is injured. Buttler also hits his 18th fifty and England are 199/4 after 31 overs.

21:46 hrs IST: Riaz is bowling with pace and hostility but Buttler gets two boundaries. England are 187/4 after 30 overs.

21:42 hrs IST: Pakistan lose a review as Buttler misses the defence. The ball is going over the stumps and England are 176/4 after 29 overs.

21:23 hrs IST: Much needed over for England. Buttler and Root deposit Malik into the midwicket and long on stands as the bowler concedes 15 runs in the over. England are 148/4 after 25 overs.

21:10 hrs IST: WICKET! Massive moment in the game. Quicker ball from Shoaib Malik and Ben Stokes goes for the cut but the edge is taken. England are 118/4 after 21.2 overs.

20:56 hrs IST: Root nears his fifty and Ben Stokes hits a boundary down the ground. Root survives an LBW as he got an inside edge and England are 108/3 after 18 overs.

20:43 hrs IST: WICKET! Hafeez's day gets even better. The slider from the Professor and Morgan plays all around that to get cleaned up. England are 86/3 after 14.5 overs.

20:36 hrs IST: Joe Root employs the cut shot and finds the boundary again as England are 85/2 after 14 overs.

20:34 hrs IST: Joe Root pulls a short ball from Mohammad Hafeez to the long leg fence for a boundary and England are 80/2 after 13 overs.

20:25 hrs IST: Hasan Ali bowls five good balls and on the last ball, he bowls a short ball. Eoin Morgan tries the pull and gets a top edge that falls just in front of the boundary at third man. England are 73/2 after 12 overs.

20:17 hrs IST: Amir concedes just two runs and England are 63/2 after 10 overs. This is a stiff challenge

20:11 hrs IST: WICKET! Brilliant bowling from Riaz. Short off-cutter and it kicks up from the deck, Bairstow looks to dab at it and the edge is taken by Sarfaraz. England are 60/2 after nine overs.

20:07 hrs IST: Root finds the boundary off Amir and England are 54/1 after eight overs. This is a good partnership developing.

20:03 hrs IST: Root and Bairstow are reviving the England innings. Wahab Riaz is into the attack and Bairstow smashes him for two boundaries.

19:57 hrs IST: Root finds a boundary straight down the ground and immediately next ball, he edges Amir to slip where Babar Azam puts the catch down. England are 37/1 after six overs.

19:51 hrs IST: Jonny Bairstow slams a six off Shadab Khan and so powerful it was that a part of the leather of the ball has been damaged. England are 28/1 after five overs.

19:47 hrs IST: Amir bowls a tight over and England are 22/1 after four overs.

19:41 hrs IST: Joe Root gets going with a square cut that goes to the third man fence and England are 18/1 after three overs.

19:38 hrs IST: WICKET! Brilliant from Shadab and England have lost the review as well. The flighted googly from Shadab, Roy misses the sweep and is hit on the pad, the umpire gives it out and Roy belatedly takes the review.The ball is not hitting the bat and it is hitting the wickets. 19:34 hrs IST: Mohammad Amir opens the bowling from the other end. After bowling five good balls, Jonny Bairstow breaks the shackles by hammering him for a boundary to deep extra cover. England are 12/0 after two overs.

19:29 hrs IST: Shadab Khan opens the bowling but Jason Roy is equal to the task as he clobbers tow boundaries. After the first over. England are 8/0.

18:58 hrs IST: Shadab Khan blasts a boundary and Pakistan have ended on 348/8 after 50 overs. England will have to achieve the highest run-chase in World Cup history if they have to win this contest.

18:53 hrs IST: WICKET! Woakes gets his third wicket as Shoaib Malik miscues the slog and is caught by Morgan. Pakistan are 337/8 after 49.1 overs.

18:51 hrs IST: Jofra Archer bowls five good balls but the last ball is dispatched by Hasan Ali for a big six. Pakistan are 337/7 after 49 overs.

18:34 hrs IST: FIFTY! The captain leads from the front. Sarfaraz blasts a boundary to deep backward point and an overthrow results in him getting to his fifty. After 46 overs, Pakistan are 311/4.
