New Delhi :

The English speedster Mark Wood, who was sidelined due to an injury has returned into the scheme of things after the board declared him fit. The fast bowler was a cause for concern when he pulled after one ball of his fourth over because of an issue with his calf during Saturday's warm-up match against Australia. He left the field immediately and took no further part in the game.

On Sunday, he was sent for a scan and the results came back all clear. As a result, he will be in consideration for Thursday's opening fixture against South Africa at the Oval.Prior to England's final warm-up match against Afghanistan, also at the Oval, Wood bowled on one of the practice pitches under the watchful eye of England assistant coach Chris Silverwood.

He will not take any part in the fixture. There was also good news concerning captain Eoin Morgan, who picked up a flake fracture of his left index finger on Friday while taking catches from a bowling machine.

His recovery has been on track and he will bat against Afghanistan but not take the field with England using 12 for the fixture. Meanwhile, England team is scheduled to play the World Cup opener against South Africa on May 30 at Oval in London.
