Shakib Al Hasan has been consistently breaking records in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. In nine matches of the ICC Cricket World Cup, he has seven fifty-plus scores which include two centuries. With the ball, he also joined a select list of Bangladesh players who took a five-wicket haul in this marquee tournament. For his all-round exploits, he became only the second player after Yuvraj Singh to take a five-wicket haul and score a fifty in a match. Shakib took 5/29 and smashed 51 in a comprehensive all-round display for Bangladesh in their World Cup clash. During the game against Pakistan at Lord’s, Shakib entered the history books for another record.

When Shakib smashed his seventh fifty-plus score, the left-hander also went past 600 runs in a single edition of the tournament. Shakib is only the third player after Sachin Tendulkar and Matthew Hayden to score over 600 runs in one edition. Tendulkar scored 673 runs in the 2003 World Cup held in South Africa while Hayden smashed 659 runs in the 2007 edition held in the West Indies. Shakib, though, is the only player in World Cup history to achieve 600 runs and take 10 wickets.

It has been a tournament full of milestones for Bangladesh’s ace all-rounder. During the game against West Indies, Shakib chopped a short ball past wicketkeeper Shai Hope to go past 6000 runs and he became the second Bangladesh player after Tamim to go past 6000 runs. While Tamim has over 6700 runs, Shakib joined him in the list. This latest achievement already makes the World Cup better for Shakib, having earlier gone past 250 wickets during the game against South Africa at The Oval at the start of the tournament.

Shakib's 250th wicket in ODIs made him only the fifth player in ODI history to take 250 wickets and score 5000+ runs. Pakistan's Abdul Razzaq, Sri Lanka's Sanath Jayasuriya, Pakistan's Shahid Afridi and South Africa's Jacques Kallis are the other cricketers to have achieved this feat. Shakib is the second-highest wicket-taker for Bangladesh in ODIs behind Mashrafe Mortaza who has 264 wickets and is playing in his fifth World Cup.
