MS Dhoni is a history-maker whenever he steps out on the cricket field. The Ranchi wicketkeeper-batsman is the only captain in cricketing history to win all major ICC events, the World T20, 50-over World Cup and the Champions Trophy in his tenure while he is one of the few Indian players to be part of a bilateral series win in every country. In the Indian Premier League, Dhoni’s brilliance has not only made Chennai Super Kings the most followed and loved franchise in the tournament, but it has also increased his popularity to legendary levels. In the game against Rajasthan Royals, Dhoni entered a special list of players as he added one more record to his massive list of achievements.
Chennai Super Kings registered a thrilling win off the last ball against Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh stadium. The match, though, was marred in controversy with Dhoni having an angry confrontation with the umpires over a no-ball incident. The captain was fined 50 percent of his match fee but amidst all the controversy, Dhoni entered an elite list.
Dhoni became the first captain to win 100 matches as skipper in the Indian Premier League following the tense win against Rajasthan Royals. Before this match, he had helped Chennai Super Kings win 94 games while he had captained Rising Pune Supergiant to five wins in 2016 and 2017. These were the two years in which Chennai Super Kings were banned due to the spot-fixing scandal in 2013.
Behind Dhoni, Gambhir is a distant second with 71 wins for Kolkata Knight Riders. Chennai Super Kings will be hoping to win four more games and reach 100 victories as a side, which will make them only the second team after Mumbai Indians to reach the landmark.
In 166 games, Dhoni now has 100 wins at a staggering rate of over 60 percent. Chennai Super Kings have a win-loss percentage of 62 percent, which is the best in the league. In international cricket, Dhoni has achieved everything that is needed while even in the Twenty20 format, he has ticked all the boxes. Dhoni became the first captain to win both the IPL and Champions League Twenty20 more than once. The Champions League Twenty20, which has been defunct since 2014.
Chennai Super Kings are currently on top of the table and their next encounter will be against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens.
