New Delhi:

Yuzvendra Chahal had put Royal Challengers Bangalore back on track against Mumbai Indians by getting rid of the dangerous Quinton de Kock. This was Chahal’s 50th wicket at the M Chinnaswamy stadium and Royal Challengers Bangalore looked to make further inroads. Rohit Sharma looked in great touch but missed out on his fifty. In stepped Yuvraj Singh and what followed made the thousands at the M Chinnaswamy stadium delirious with joy and also made social media users overjoyed. In the 14th over bowled by Chahal, Yuvraj cut loose and almost repeated a feat which made him legendary 12 years ago.

The first ball bowled by Chahal was short and Yuvaj dispatched it over deep midwicket for a six. Chahal bowled a flighted delivery and the left-hander blasted it straight down the ground for his second six. The legspinner fired a flatter delivery outside off but Yuvraj bludgeoned a lofted shot over long on for his third consecutive six. At that moment, fans were expecting a repeat of how he had hit England pacer Stuart Broad for six consecutive sixes in the World T20 clash at Durban.

However, in trying to go for his fourth six, Yuvraj miscued a googly to long off and was caught by Mohammad Siraj as his innings ended on 23 off 12 balls. Speaking after the incident, Chahal said he felt like Broad when he was getting hit. “When he (Yuvraj) hit three sixes, I felt like Stuart Broad.  You know he is a legend batsman and I backed myself. I had to bowl a bit up, might be a chance to get him out because it is a smaller ground. So that time, I thought of bowling my best delivery and he got sixes. That you cannot help and hence I bowled a wider googly,” Chahal said.

Yuvraj Singh entered the record books in the 2007 World T20 encounter against England at Durban. In the 19th over which was bowled by Broad, Yuvraj was fired up by some banter from Andrew Flintoff before the over. The first ball was full and he mauled it over wide long on for the first six. The second ball was flicked over deep backward square leg for another six and dispatched the third ball inside out over wide long off for his third six.

The fourth ball was a wide full toss which was clobbered over deep point for his fourth consecutive six. The fifth ball was launched over long leg for his fifth six and history was created when he slammed the sixth ball over wide long on to score a fifty off 12 balls, the fastest in the history of the format. Yuvraj became the fourth individual after Sir Garfield Sobers, Ravi Shastri and Herschelle Gibbs to hit six sixes in one over. While Sobers and Shastri achieved it in a first-class game, Gibbs achieved it in an ODI against Netherlands in the 2007 World Cup encounter in St.Kitts.
