Japan Open Super Series :Srikanth Kidambi edges past Tian Houwei in close encounter to sail into second round

Srikanth Kidambi began his campaign in the Japan Open Super Series in winning fashion by defeating China's Tian Houwei in the opening round on Tuesday. Srikanth sealed the encounter in three tight sets 21-15 12-21 21-11.

It was only Shrikanth's second win in eight encounters played between the two shuttlers. Kidambi shall now take on the winner of Hu Yun or Anthony Ginting on Wednesday. More Indians would be in action later in day with Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu, Sameer Verma and all playing their encounters later on Tuesday.

Meanwhile it was curtains for P Kashyap who lost his second qualyfing encounter to Japan's Yu Igarashi. The commonwealth gold-medallist lost 11-21, 21-18, 14-21 t
