New Delhi:

The outpouring of grief following the Pulwama attack in which 40 CRPF jawans were killed has been immense. Bollywood and sports personalities have offered their condolences while Virender Sehwag, former India cricketer, has offered to sponsor the education for the children of the murdered CRPF jawans. India wrestler, Yogeshwar Dutt, has gone one step further and on his Twitter handle, he announced his unfledged monetary support to the CRPF in the time of crisis. On his Twitter handle, Yogeshwar announced, “Everyone is urging the government to take action following the Pulwama terror attack. Revenge is necessary but one must remember that at this time, it is important to stand with the families of the jawans. We should try and help the families as much as possible. Keeping this in mind, I announce that I will donate 5,25,00 to the CRPF and I will pledge to donate my one-month salary to Bharat ke Veer.”

The Bharat Ke Veer website was launched last year by the ministry of home affairs on the suggestion of Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar and it allows citizens to transfer money directly to the bank accounts of martyred soldiers ‘families. The donation has now been granted income tax exemption under form 80 (g). Ever since the launch of the website, the actor and the Home Ministry had been working hard to make it tax free.

The Pulwama terror attack has drawn sharp criticism from Indian sportsmen. Apart from cricket associations, players like Gautam Gambhir took an aggressive stance on Twitter while others like Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh, Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar and players from the national and domestic sides conveyed their condolences on Twitter. Even Broadcasters and digital websites have taken a stance. D Sports, who were the broadcasters of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Twenty20 tournament, have decided to suspend the telecast.

Portraits of Pakistan cricketers have been removed from Cricket Association buildings in Rajasthan and Punjab while Imran Khan, the former cricket captain and current Prime Minister of Pakistan’s photo has been covered in CCI. Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Rajeev Shukla has said the actions are justified. “Whatever is happening, Imran Khan’s portrait being removed or MFN status revoked is people’s outrage and the reaction is justified. I’ve always said the sport is above politics but now it will hamper sporting ties too, not until Pakistan sponsored terrorism is stopped,” Shukla told Times Now.
