Romania's Simona Halep defeated Czech Republic's Karolina Pliskova in the semifinals to set up title clash with unseeded Latvian J Ostapenko.Halep defeated Pliskova 6-4, 3-6, 6-3  in a three-set marathon on Friday. The finals on Saturday shall be Halep's second grand slam final appearance.

She was the Ladies Singles finalist at the 2014 French Open.Halep lost to Maria Sharapova in the 2014 women's singles final at Roland Garros.Halep had defeated to book a place in the finals.

Meanwhile,  J Ostapenko became the first Latvian player to reach the finals of a grand slam after beating 30th seed Swiss Timea  T. Bacsinszky. J Ostapenko defeated  Bacsinszky 7-6,3-6, 6-3 in their semifinal encounter.
