Number 24 seeded Del Potro defeated 3rd seeded Federer 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 and 6-4 in the quarter-final game of the US Open on Wednesday. Now, Del Potro will take on Rafael Nadal in the semi-final encounter.
Del Potro, who has been displaying flawless tennis so far in the tournament, had won US Open in 2009.
In another quarter-final encounter, Spaniard Rafael Nadal trounced Russian Andrey Rublev 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals at Flushing Meadows.
Federer loss broke hearts of millions of his fans across the globe. People were anticipating a blockbuster Nadal vs Federer semi-final.
