New Delhi:

Indian shuttlers continued to face heartbreak in the French Open tournament as PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth crashed out in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

With Saina Nehwal exiting the tournament earlier with a tough loss to Tai Tzu Yin, Sindhu suffered a 13-21, 16-21 in a 40-minute encounter against He Bingjiao of China. This was Sindhu’s second loss to the Chinese shuttler this year, having lost in the Indonesian Open in July. With this, Bingjiao improved her head-to-head record against Sindhu to 7-5.

In the men’s side, Srikanth showed some fight but world No.1 Kento Momota simply proved to be too strong. Momota, currently the best men’s player on the circuit, defeated Srikanth for the fifth consecutive time with a hard-fought 21-16, 21-19 win. With Sindhu and Srikanth’s loss, India’s challenge in singles came to an end.

However, their next encounter is against top seeds Marcus Fernaldi Gideon and Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo of Indonesia.
