India stands 4th in the medal tally with a total of 12 medals

Medals galore for India on the Day four of Commonwealth Games 2018 at Gold Coast. Weightlifter Punam Yadav, Manu Bhaker and Indian women’s table tennis team all clinched gold to take India’s medal tally to an impressive 12. Punam Yadav started the day with a gold in the women’s 69kg event, and teenage starlet Manu Bhaker followed her with a gold in the women’s 10m air pistol event. Later in the day, Indian women table tennis team grabbed a historic gold medal in the team table tennis event.

Heena Sidhu won a silver in 10m air pistrol, whereas Ravi Kumar clinched a bronze in 10m air men’s rifle finals. Vikas Thakur then added a bronze to India’s medal tally in 94kg weightlifting category.

Indian women’s table tennis team marked their name in history with golden colours after making history by defeating Singapore in the final. Whereas legendary boxer MC Mary Kom, won her quarter-final match to assure herself of a maiden Games medal.

Meanwhile, Indian men’s hockey team won 4-3 against Wales and registered their first victory at CWG 2018. Pakistan held India to a 2-2 draw on Saturday.

22-year-old Punam Yadav finished with an effort of 100kg in snatch and 122kg in clean and jerk to take India’s gold medal tally to seven. Whereas in 10m air rifle finals Ravi bagged a bronze, four year ago Ravi came extremey close of winning a bronze at the Glasgow games.

MC Mary Kom in the women’ 45-48kg quarter-finals defeated Scotland’s Megan Gordon and assured her first CWG medal.

In the squash women’s team semi-final against England, India dominated England 3-0 to enter the final. Whereas in the badminton team semi-finals, India thrashed Singapore 3-0 to reach the final.

Ashwini Ponnappa and Satwik Rankireddy handed India a 1-0 lead over Singapore with a 22-20, 21-18 victory, followed by Kidambi Srikanth defeating Keen Yew Lot 21-17, 21-14. In the men’s doubles, Satwik and Chirag Shetty were defeated 21-17, 19-21, 12-21 but Saina Nehwal was in cracking form in her singles’ match to beat Jia Min Yeo 21-8, 21-15 and take India to the final.

Rani Rampal-led Indian women’s hockey team defeated England 2-1 for their second victory in three games, where Gurjit Kaur scored the winner.

India stands 4th in the medal tally with a total of 12 medals, consisting of 7 Golds, 2 Silvers and 3 Bronze medals.
