New Delhi:

When it comes to dominance in cricket, Australia's name comes to mind whether it is the men or the women's team. The Australian cricket team have held the world record for successive Test wins twice with 16 in 2001 and 2007/08. The Australian women's team has also created a new record of winning 16 consecutive Twenty20 Internationals. However, the centre of cricketing dominance has shifted to a country which you would least expect. The mark of 16 has now been broken by the Thailand women's team, who have now won 17 consecutive Twenty20 Internationals and have charted a course of dominance unlike any team in this format.

Thailand's winning streak is not only spectacular, it has been dominant. The streak began in July 2018 whn they defeated the UAE women's team in Utrecht by seven wickets. This was followed by a 34-run win against Uganda Women in Amstelveen in the same tournament. A dominant display at home saw them beat Myanmar, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Bhutan, UAE and Nepal.

In the next tournament held in Bangkok, Thailand defeated China, Nepal, Kuwait, Hong Kong and UAE again to continue their dominance. In Deventer in the ongoing series, Thailand's stature grew as they defeated Scotland, Ireland and Netherlands.

Australia have also registered 12 consecutive wins, starting from March 2018 and extending all the way into their ICC Women's World Twenty20 campaign in the West Indies later that year.  Zimbabwe's 14-match streak is ongoing, which means they are in with a chance of equalling, and potentially breaking Thailand's record. England and New Zealand are the other teams to have won more than 10 matches in this format with 12 apiece in 2012 and 2017/18 respectively.
