AB de Villiers, Hashim Amla enters elite club in Test cricket

It’s been record shattering New Year Test match between South Africa and England as on Day 2 Ben Strokes destroyed many with his rampaging batting. On Day 3, the trend continued as both South Africa batsmen AB de Villiers and Hashim Amla have joined the elite 8000 and 7000-run clubs in respectively.

Skipper Hashim Amla scored his 24th Test century in the course as he reached 7000th runs in Tests. He became the South Africa’s fastest batsman to achieve the goal in just 152 innings beating Jacques Kallis record of 164.

De Villiers is the second fastest willower to reach 8000 Test runs for South Africa after Kallis who took 170 innings. The world’s best batsman in limited overs took 172 innings.

AB De Villiers has played 104 Tests so far and scored runs at average of 51.29. He also has 21 centuries and 58 half-centuries. Amla is playing his 90th Test and has an average just a shade less than that of De Villiers at 50.05.
