New Delhi:

Ravinderpal Singh registered his name in the record books as he became the first batsman to score a century on T20I debut. He also recorded the highest score by a batsman on T20I debut.

Singh scored 101 runs from 48 deliveries including six fours and 10 sixes overtaking former Australia cricketer Ricky Ponting who had scored an unbeaten 98 in the first-ever T20I against New Zealand on February 17, 2005.

Singh played the record-breaking knock against Cayman Islands in the first match of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup qualifiers at Sandys Parish in Bermuda. He also became the first batsman from Canada to score a T20 hundred. Ruvindu Gunasekera’s 95 against UAE in a T20 match in 2012 was the previous highest T20 score by any player for Canada.

Batting first, Singh's century helped Canada to 196. Cayman Islands could reach just 112 for 7 in 20 overs.

Singh was part of the Global T20 Canada also where he was a part of Yuvraj Singh-led Toronto Nationals.
