The Australian Bushfire menace continues to wreck the country with millions of hectares of land being scorched along with thousands of homes getting destroyed. About 18 people have died and states like New South Wales and Victoria have announced a state of emergency, with New South Wales announcing mass relocations. Firefighters continue to tackle the menace in a big way. Australia's sporting personalities have also chipped in and are contributing in a big way to help the firefighters tackle the menace. However, Chris Lynn and Glenn Maxwell have made some announcements in tackling the bushfire menace and they have won over the internet with this initiative.
Taking to his official Twitter handle, Lynn announced, "Hey Guys, for every six I hit in this years Big Bash League I will donate $250 towards the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal. It is special to see so many athletes from various sports getting in behind the real heroes who are fighting to save lives and properties around our country." Maxwell echoed Lynn's sentiment and he also tweeted, "Love it Lynny!! I'll match you on $250 per six I hit in this years BBL. Great cause which is helping so many people around the country who are doing it tough right now."

Both the Australian and New Zealand teams paid tributes to the firefighters and volunteers before the start of the Sydney Test on Friday and also wore black armbands as a mark of respect for the dead. Cricket Australia has already announced that the upcoming ODI series in March between the two nations will be used to raise money which will go to the Australian Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund. Other sports have also chipped in with tennis personalities leading a call for charity games in order to raise funds for the victims of the bushfire.

Nick Kyrgios, who has often being in the news for his bad behavior on the court, tweeted, "C'mon @TennisAustralia surely we can do a pre @AustralianOpen exho to raise funds for those affected by the fires?" said Kyrgios who has handed a 16-week suspended ban in September after a series of outbursts. With the Australian Open scheduled to begin in mid-January and the ATP Cup also beginning soon, Tennis Australia said fundraisers would be held during tournaments including the Australian Open and the ATP Cup team event, telling fans to "stay tuned" for details.
