Former India all-rounder Dinesh Mongia announced his retirement from all formats of cricket on Wednesday. Mongia was the member of the Indian team which finished runner-up in the 2003 World Cup. Mongia played 57 ODIs for India. Mongia was also part of the squad for India's first T20I match.
Mongia last played for India on 12 May 2007 against Bangladesh. He finished with 1230 runs at an average of 27.95 in ODIs while scored 38 runs in his only T20I. He also took 14 wickets. Mongia played 121 matches first class matches hitting 21 centuries. Mongia also played county cricket for Lancashire and Leicestershire.
Mongia had last played in 2007 for Punjab. He was banned by BCCI after he joined Indian Cricket League - the rebel T20 tournament.
Mongia made his first class debut in 1995-96. He made it to the national team after a string of big innings in the 2000-01 season. Mongia's most famous knock came in March 2002 when hammered 159 runs against Zimbabwe at Guwahati.
After the ban by BCCI, Mongia remained out of the official circuit and was one of the players who was never granted amnesty by the board. However, he returned to mainstream cricket as a Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) selector last season.
