New Delhi:

Gloucestershire have signed West Indies speester Shannon Gabriel on a three-game County Championship contract. The 31-year-old will join the club for the next three encounters against Sussex, Worcestershire and Northamptonshire respectively in September. The club is hoping that the inclusion of Gabriel will provide the team all-important boost to the first division. With three wins and 129 points from 10 games so far, Gloucestershire are second on the Division Two standings - tied on points with Glamorgan - with only Lancashire above them. The top three teams are going to make the jump for 2020.

"Shannon gives us some genuine pace and international experience," said Gloucestershire coach Richard Dawson. "He will bring that extra pick-me-up for the last three weeks of the season which is a tough slog after playing T20 cricket along with four months of four-day cricket."

Gabriel has had a forgettable World Cup outing, claiming two wickets at 86.50 at an economy of 8.43. However, he has been in prime form when it comes to the display of red cherry. Interestingly, this will be Gabriel's second County stint, having previously played two games for Worcestershire in 2015.

"I'm really looking forward to joining up with Gloucestershire in September and I will be trying my best to help the team push for promotion to Division One," said Gabriel. "Hopefully I'll be carrying some good form off the back of the Test series against India."
