Hayden Walsh ended with figures of 2/28 as West Indies leveled the three-match series in style with an eight-wicket win.

New Delhi:

His name is a mixture of the most intimidating opener in Test history and one of the greatest fast bowlers the world has ever produced. When you combine Matthew Hayden and Courtney Walsh, the end result is Hayden Walsh. The 27-year-old, born in the US Virgin Islands, has had a meteoric rise to his cricketing career. In the 2019 Caribbean Premier League, Walsh played for the Barbados Tridents and he picked up 22 wickets in nine games at an average of 12.68. His performance included a haul of 5/19 against the Trinbago Knight Riders and his bowling played a long way in Barbados Tridents winning the 2019 Caribbean Premier League title by defeating the previously undefeated Guyana Amazon Warriors.

However, Hayden Walsh still has a long journey to go. He had a great start in the series against Afghanistan but West Indies lost the series 1-2. After a tough match in Hyderabad, Walsh bowled brilliantly to take the wickets of Shivam Dube and Shreyas Iyer. Walsh might have gotten noticed with his great spell but hilariously, he revealed that he was still mistaken for Courtney Walsh and it happened during the Canada Global T20 League.

"I was playing in the Cananda T20 league and someone called me Courtney Walsh (laughs). So yeah...People my father is not Courtney Walsh. But I guess now they will now find out who I am and who is my father," Walsh said.

The 27-year-old added that it has been a roller-coaster journey for him and he hoped that his performance can get a ticket to an IPL franchise with the auction scheduled on December 19 in Kolkata. "Yeah, it has been like a roller-coaster ride for me. As you can see, I have been working hard trying to find my way to the top into international cricket. Just to be here and perform in a game is just. I am over the moon. The main thing is more to win the series. The goal is just winning this series and to help the team do their best," Walsh said.

Walsh said the wicket of Dube, whom he dismissed with a googly on 54, came as a result of practice to bowling to the left-handers in the West Indies team consistently. "I was bowling a lot to Evin (Lewis) and Nicholas (Pooran) in the nets. I was a bit confident coming in to bowl to him (Dube)," Walsh added. With a decent beginning in international cricket, Walsh would be hoping to contribute on a regular basis for the West Indies.
