New Delhi:

The 2019 Auctions saw some magnificent buys, with many unknown Indian players getting a massive sum of money. There were youngsters and some players who did well in the domestic Twenty20 leagues who fetched a good amount of money. This auction can indeed be labeled as the auction where Indian talent was rewarded. There were some foreign players who also got some benefits in this event. Out of all the 60 players who were sold in this auction, these set of players and their price made this event a truly memorable one. Here is the list of these ‘unknown’ players who shot into the limelight with big bucks.

1.)    Varun Chakravarthy – Rs 8.4 crore to Kings XI Punjab

 He was dubbed zero in school cricket. He quit the game and pursued a serious career in academics. One day, his interest in the game was rekindled. He dusted his kitbag and got back to work He helped Madurai Panthers to the Tamil Nadu Premier League title and ended up with 22 wickets in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. This is the story of Varun Chakaravarthy. Dubbed as the mystery spinner, Varun was the real star in the auction. After a heavy bid from Chennai Super Kings, Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals, Chakaravarthy was picked up by Kings XI Punjab for Rs 8.4 crore, the joint-highest bid for an Indian player with Jaydev Unadkat.

2.)    Shivam Dube – Rs 5 crore to Royal Challengers Bangalore

He is being hailed as the ‘next Yuvraj Singh’ by former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar. The youngster smashed five sixes in an over twice in the year. In the Mumbai T20 League, he blasted Pravin Tambe for five sixes in an over while in the Ranji Trophy game between Mumbai and Baroda, he hit Swapnil Singh for five sixes in one over. With his big-hitting prowess and the small boundaries at the M Chinnaswamy stadium, Dube could have a massive impact in the 2019 tournament.

3.)    Prabhsimran Singh – Rs 4.8 crore to Kings XI Punjab

The age of 17 is not even a legal age to get a PAN card. However, Prabhsmiran Singh will have to think about getting a PAN card done quickly after going to Kings XI Punjab for Rs 4.8 crore. Prabhsimran had missed the ticket to the U-19 World Cup in New Zealand. He channeled his disappointments in the right direction by smashing 298 in a Punjab Inter Zonal competition. He played a big role in the U-19 Asia Cup triumph and had performed well in the Emerging Teams Cup for India where they lost to Sri Lanka.

4.)    Akshdeep Nath – Rs 3.6 crore to Royal Challengers Bangalore

Akshdeep Nath had gone unsold in the first two rounds of the IPL 2019 auction. However, when his name came in the accelerated auction bid, Akshdeep fetched big numbers and he went to Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 3.6 crore.

5.)    Prayas Ray Barman – Rs 1.5 crore to Royal Challengers Bangalore

At age 16, one is thinking of finishing high school with good grades. However, for Prayas Ray Barman, a 16-year-old from Bengal, he will now be wondering what to with the money that he has gotten from the auction when he went to Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 1.5 crore. The Bengal player is a legspinner who can bat a bit. His haul of 4/20 against Jammu and Kashmir put him in the spotlight and one hopes that he gets a chance to play with Kohli in the RCB squad in IPL 2019.
