New Delhi:

Kuldeep Yadav created history in the second ODI against West Indies at the ADA-VDCA stadium in Vizag on Wednesday as he took his second hat-trick in ODIs to help India win by 107 runs against the West Indies. Kuldeep had taken a hat-trick earlier against Australia in 2017 at the Eden Gardens and his feat puts him in a special group of players who have taken a hat-trick in ODIs twice. Kuldeep's feat build on the earlier double strike by Mohammed Shami and centuries by KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma as India dominated the West Indies in style.

Kuldeep joined a select list of bowlers who have taken two or more hat-tricks in ODIs. Wasim Akram of Pakistan was the first to take two hat-tricks. Saqlain Mushtaq and Chaminda Vaas were the others to follow suit. However, Lasith Malinga of Sri Lanka holds the world record for taking three hat-tricks in ODIs while Trent Boult of New Zealand was the last person to take two hat-tricks in ODIs. Kuldeep's feat came at the Eden Gardens against Australia and it involved running through the lower-middle order.

In that match, Ajinkya Rahane hit 55 and Virat Kohli smashed 92 as India managed to reach 252 all out. In response, Australia lost wickets at regular intervals but they were boosted by an aggressive fifty from Glenn Maxwell. However, Kuldeep decided to spin some magic and in the 33rd over, he created history. With his second ball, he bowled Matthew Wade. The next ball, he had Ashton Agar LBW and he completed the hat-trick by getting rid of Pat Cummins as he edged a catch to MS Dhoni.

At Vizag, KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma blasted centuries and aided by a blitz from Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant, India reached 387/5. Shai Hope and Nicholas Pooran kept hitting sixes at will as West Indies looked to fight. However, once again in the 33rd over, as it was the case two years ago Kuldeep once again created history. On the fourth ball of the over, Shai Hope launched a flighted delivery to deep midwicket but Virat Kohli was stationed at the boundary and he held his nerve to take a superb catch. The next ball, Kuldeep came round the wicket and Jason Holder wass stumped by a googly thanks to some sharp keeping from Rishabh Pant.

Kuldeep got the hat-trick when Alzarri Joseph poked at a delivery that spun back in and Kedar Jadhav, stationed at second slip, took the catch to his right and Vizag erupted into raptures. Kuldeep is the first Indian bowler to take two hat-tricks in ODIs but he is the fourth Indian after Chetan Sharma, Kapil Dev and Mohammed Shami to take achive the feat in ODIs.
