Harmanpreet Kaur's Indian cricket team started their ICC Women's World T20 campaign on the ultimate high as they defeated defending and four-time champions Australia by 17 runs. Poonam Yadav was the star with 4/19 and she was ably supported by Deepti Sharma's unbeaten 49 and valuable bowling contributions from Shikha Pandey and Rajeshwari Gayakwad. A win for India women's cricket team in their next games against Bangladesh and New Zealand will help them seal a spot in the playoffs. For New Zealand, they started their campaign on a high with a seven-wicket win against Sri Lanka as Sophie Devine continued on her record-breaking run with a sixth consecutive fifty-plus score. New Zealand and India squared off in the 2018 ICC Women's World T20 where they were undone by a superb century from Harmanpreet and she will be the key yet again as India look to create history in the 2020 edition of the ICC Women's World T20.
