New Delhi:

Mohammad Irfan, the towering Pakistani pacer has created history in the world of Twenty20 cricket as he produced the most economical four-over spell in T20 history for his Caribbean Premier League team Barbados Trident against St Kitts and Nevis with his figures of 4-3-1-2 on Sunday.

However, his record-breaking spell was not enough to take his side Barbados Trident over the winning line against St Kitts and Nevis. The giant quick took two wickets and conceded just one run from his four-over spell. Notably, he produced 23 dot balls before giving away a single off his final delivery of the spell and finished with the figures of 4-3-1-2 with an economy of just 0.25.

Irfan broke the record of Chris Morris who had the previous four-over best of 0.5 for his South Africa’s Ram Slam side Cape Cobras.

The pacer sent back Chris Gayle from the first ball of his spell, and fellow opener Evin Lewis was the second one to follow in his second over.

The end of Irfan’s spell brought a sense of relief for the next pair, who recovered their side’s batting by putting on 88 runs for the third wicket, including 27 off the horror over from Steve Smith.

St Kitts won the match by four wickets with seven balls to go in a reply to Trident’s 147.

Former Australian skipper Steve Smith scored four runs as he was dismissed off the third delivery he faced.
