Mohammed Shami’s estranged wife Hasin Jahan was arrested on Sunday after she forcibly entered the house of the Indian cricket team pacer and created a ruckus. According to reports, Hasin Jahan reached her husband's house in Sahaspur Ali Nagar village late on Sunday night. When her in-laws asked her to leave, she locked herself and her child in a room. Shami’s parents called the police and they tried to reach a truce between Hasin Jahan and Shami’s parents. However, when that failed, the police took Hasin Jahan into custody but was later released on bail. Shami currently is playing for Kings XI Punjab in the IPL.
Speaking to reporters, Hasin Jahan said, "I have come to my husband's house and I have every right to stay here. My in-laws are misbehaving with me and the police are supporting them. They should have arrested them but they are taking me to the police station."
Earlier this year, Hasin Jahan came to media limelight after she accused Mohammed Shami of infidelity, domestic violence and marital rape. In March 2018, Jahan took to Facebook and posted some screenshots of Shami's alleged chats with other women. Jahan has also accused Shami of meeting a Pakistani bookie, hinting at his possible involvement in match-fixing.
The accusations prompted the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to withhold his annual contract and launch a probe against him. Shami, however, came out clean in the investigation by BCCI's anti-corruption unit. Hasin Jahan joined the Congress party in presence of Mumbai Congress Committee President Sanjay Nirupam in Mumbai. Shami had submitted an application to the District Magistrate of Amroha for a gunner, claiming a threat to his life.
Last year, in an exclusive interview to News Nation, Shami termed wife Hasin Jahan's allegations as absolutely "shocking" and demanded a thorough investigation.
The Indian pacer said, “This (allegations by the wife) is absolutely shocking for me, I hope that the final decision will be made in my family and my daughter’s favour, and I cannot be termed guilty until the allegations are proved against me.”
Speaking about any previous incidents that caused the turmoil, Shami said, “Our last Social Media post was made on Holi and Hasin Jahan expressed all her good feelings to the media, so there is no question of bad history amongst us.”
