Ridding on the crest of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s half centuries, India won the second T20 and clinch the series with 2-0 unassailable lead at Melbourne. It was also India’s first even bilateral series win against Australia in Down Under. It was a much-needed win for Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni as questions were raising over his ability to lead the side.
Last year, under Dhoni India lost the triangular series in Australia, then lost in World Cup semis. It was not all, the Indian team lost to Bangladesh and South Africa in ODIs. This year also under Dhoni, India lost the ODI series 4-1.
In a way, with the T20 series win against Australia the Indian skipper has broken the string of losses. If India will win the last T20, it will claim the top spot in the ICC rankings.
Dhoni has also enforced his name to the record books, with the dismissal of James Faulkner as the most stumpings in international cricket across all formats combined. The Jharkhand player has 140 stumpings, beating Sri Lankan Kumar Sangakkara's mark of 139.
The 34-year-old has played 90 Tests, 275 ODIs and 54 T20Is. He has 89 stumpings in ODIs, 38 in Tests and 13 in T20Is. He made his ODI international debut against Bangladesh in December 2004. Dhoni retired from Tests in December 2014 but continues to play both 50-over and T20 cricket.
