Indian wicketkeeper MS Dhoni who has a habit of owning most of the wicket-keeping records went past Sri Lankan legend Kumara Sangakkara's record for most catches behind the stumps in T20 cricket.Â
Mahi thereby added another feather to his cap by becoming the most successful glovesman in the history of T20 cricket.
The victory by Indians over the Proteas in the first T20 at Johanesburg witnessed quite a few milestones but the most prominent among them was MS Dhoni surpassing Kumar Sangakkara’s record of most number of catches in T20 cricket.Â
Sangakkara held the record with 133 catches (254 games) which Dhoni surpassed after catching Reeza Hendricks off the bowling of Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Dhoni now has 134 scalps to his name in 275 T20 matches. This includes performances in T20 Internationals, Indian Premier League among others.
Meanwhile India's Dinesh Karthik is third on the list with 123 catches. Pakistan’s Kamran Akmal and West Indies’ Dinesh Ramdin follow thereafter. In T20I Dhoni is leading the list with 77 dismissals (87 matches).
Among wicketkeepers with most dismissals T20 internationals, Dhoni is third on the list after Mark Boucher and Adam Gilchrist. Seamer, Bhuvneshwar Kumar also had a day to remember after becoming the first Indian to take five for in all three formats.
