A 23-year-old cricketer, who was a stand-by player for Mumbai Indians in the 2018 Indian Premier League, was attacked in Ghaziabad on Thursday. Prashant Tiwari, who has been part of the Mumbai Cricket Academy and started playing cricket in 2009, was allegedly thrashed by his neighbors in the Mukundpur area in Ghaziabad. A statement released by the Prashant Tiwari’s brother, Prabhat, said the attackers were ‘jealous’ of the cricketer’s success. “Me and my brother Prashant were having a friendly fight with each other inside our house around 4 pm after Holi celebrations. Two brothers Sanjeev and Mandeep, who live in our neighbourhood, were standing in their balcony at that time. Both of them started shouting on us and used abusive words. When we questioned, both of them, accompanied by their other family members, barged into our home and thrashed us badly,” Prabhat said while chatting with Times of India.

Prashant’s brother said the neighbors vandalised their house and also misbehaved with the family members. During the fight, Prashant’s veins on his left hand were punctured and the youngster had to be admitted to hospital where his condition is reported to be stable.

The Times of India report also mentioned that the police had registered a case against four persons of a family and the case has been registered at Sihoni Gate Police Station. "Following the incident, a case under section 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 427 (Mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the accused persons at Sihani Gate police station while further investigations into the case are underway," said Sanjay Pandey, Station House Officer of Sihoni Gate police station to the newspaper.
