New Delhi:

A stupendous all-round display from Williamson-led New Zealand team saw the visitors get hammered in the most obnoxious manner possible in the first of three-match ODI series on Wednesday. On the given day, the Kiwis turned out to be better side eventually upstaging Bangla Tigers by 8 wickets with 33 balls remaining.

The toss fell in favour of Bangladeshi skipper Mashrafe Mortaza who asked the opposition to have a bowl first. Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson tossed the ball to his favourite aide Trent Boult who provided the breakthrough in his first over.

Tamim Iqbal, who was returning to the International circuit after suffering thumb injury didn’t trouble the scorers much as he departed for mere one run. He tried to play away from his body to Trent Boult and got a slight nip through to the keeper.

The second to go was his counterpart Liton Das who too didn’t trouble the scorers much and departed for as many runs as Tamim scored. With two quick wickets, Bangladesh team was in serious trouble and didn’t manage to recover from the situation.

Sooner the spearhead Trent Boult along with his partner-in-crime Matt Henry ripped through Bangladesh’s middle-order as they were reduced for 71 runs of 5 wickets.

Losing 5 quick wickets, the men-in-green was looking for a partnership. Fortunately for them, Mohammad Mithun registered an 84-run partnership with Mohammad Saif before the latter falling prey to Mitchell Santner.

Bangladesh was then bowled out for not so daunting total of 232 runs. Mitchell Santner and Trent Boult were the picks of the bowlers, picking three wickets each.

In reply, Martin Guptill and Henry Nicholas started off the innings and went on to put up a partnership of 103 runs before the latter was sent back by Mehidy Hasan.

Guptill continued to churn runs eventually registering his 15th ODI International hundred. The innings was laced with eight boundaries and four sixes.

His innings along with few cameos from Nicholas and Taylor helped Kiwis to register the win. Martin Guptill was also adjourned as the man-of-the-match for his superlative innings off 103 runs.

This remains to be seen as how well the blackcaps can continue their dominance in white ball cricket. The next game between two sides is scheduled to be played on 16th February at Christchurch where Bangladesh will look to bounce back and square the series.

Brief Score:

Bangladesh: 232/10 in 48.2 overs (Mohammad Mithun 62; Trent Boult 3/40)

New Zealand: 233/2 in 44.3 overs (Martin Guptill 103; Mahmudullah 1/27)
